What Is Performance Marketing and How Can It Help Your Business? If you run a business, you have probably spent money on advertising at some point. Maybe you boosted a post on Instagram. Maybe you tried Facebook Ads. Maybe you ran a Google Ad. You spent some money, got some views or clicks, and then wondered: “Okay, but did I actually get anything from this?” I think this is one of the biggest questions businesses should ask when they are spending money on online advertising. Getting views is nice. Getting clicks is nice too. But at the end of the day, most businesses are looking for something more useful. They want leads, calls, messages, bookings, sales, or actual customers. That is where performance marketing comes in. Performance marketing is basically about looking at what your advertising is actually doing. Instead of running an ad and hoping that it works, we track what happens after people see or click it. Did they visit the website? Did they send a WhatsApp message? Did they fill out a form? Did they call? Did they buy something? These actions tell us much more than simply knowing how many people saw the advertisement. So, What Is Performance Marketing? The name “performance marketing” might sound a little complicated, but the idea behind it is actually simple. You run marketing campaigns, watch the results, and use those results to make better decisions. For example, imagine you are running two ads for the same service. The first ad gets 100 clicks but only one person contacts you. The second ad gets 50 clicks but brings you 10 inquiries. If you only look at clicks, the first ad looks better. But if your goal is to get customers, the second ad is clearly more useful. This is why I like the idea behind performance marketing. We don’t have to guess everything. We can look at what people are actually doing and use that information to improve the campaign. As a Best Performance Marketer in Kerala, I believe this is one of the most useful parts of performance marketing. The numbers are not there just to make a report look good. They should help us understand what is happening and decide what to do next. First Understand the Business Before I start thinking about advertisements, I think about the business first. Who are the customers? What does the business actually offer? What problem does it solve? Why should someone choose this business instead of another one? What makes the offer different? And most importantly, what do we want people to do? These questions may sound basic, but they can make a big difference. For example, imagine a local gym wants more members. We shouldn’t simply create an ad saying, “Join Our Gym.” Who are we trying to reach? Maybe it is people who are completely new to fitness. Maybe it is working professionals. Maybe it is people looking for personal training. The message can be different for each group. This is why I believe good performance marketing starts before the ad is even created. As a Best Performance Marketer in Kerala, I prefer understanding the business and the audience first instead of immediately jumping into the Ads Manager. Reaching the Right People Matters You can have a really good advertisement, but if it is shown to the wrong people, you probably won’t get much from it. Think about it. If you are selling wedding photography, showing your advertisement to everyone in your city isn’t necessarily useful. If you run a local restaurant, you probably want people who live close enough to actually visit. If you sell business software, you may want to reach business owners or people working in specific roles. Every business has a different audience. This is why targeting matters. The goal isn’t always to reach the biggest number of people possible. Sometimes, reaching 1,000 people who actually need your service is much better than reaching 50,000 people who have no interest in it. For me, that is one of the biggest differences between simply running ads and actually thinking about performance. Google Ads Can Reach People Who Are Already Searching Google Ads can be very useful because of one simple thing: search intent. When someone searches for something on Google, they are usually looking for an answer, product, or service. For example: “Best restaurant near me” “Digital marketing services in Calicut” “AC repair near me” “Wedding photographer in Kerala” These people are already looking for something. That makes them different from someone who is simply scrolling through Instagram. Google Ads can help a business appear when someone is actively searching for a relevant product or service. But getting the click is only the beginning. What happens after that click is also important. Does the website load quickly? Can the person understand the service? Is the price or offer clear? Can they easily contact the business? If the answer to these questions is no, even a good Google Ad may not give you the result you want. Meta Ads Work Differently Facebook and Instagram are a little different. People usually don’t open Instagram thinking, “I need to buy something right now.” They might be watching Reels, looking at posts, checking messages, or just scrolling because they are bored. So the advertisement needs to catch their attention. A good video, image, offer, or opening line can make someone stop scrolling for a few seconds. That few seconds can be enough to create interest. As a Best SMM Specialist in Calicut, I also look at how social media content and advertising can work together. If someone sees an advertisement and then visits your Instagram profile, what do they see? Do they find useful content? Does the page look active? Can they understand what the business does? Do they see customer reviews or real examples? All of these small things can affect whether someone trusts the business. A Good Ad Can’t Fix Everything This is something I think businesses sometimes
